Abstract
Faith communities are recognized as epic-centers of spiritual and moral development. Faith community nursing refocuses the mission of the local church to not only address spiritual health, but also include physical and emotional health with an emphasis on prevention. The goal is for the faith community nurse to become an integral member of the ministerial staff encouraging engagement with local community resources. This chapter will discuss the progression of faith community nurses as staff and leader of health initiatives with the intention of impacting the choices that people make on a daily basis supporting long-term health and involvement in the life of the congregation. This content will be discussed considering the seven functions of the faith community nurse role.
