Abstract

This chapter will describe the nurse’s role in facilitating sexual health. It will discuss the elements of screening for and managing sexually transmitted infection and enabling contraceptive choice. It is intended to give a flavour of nursing in sexual and reproductive health, but it is not exhaustive. It will highlight common issues and outline the necessary training and preparation for working in this remarkable speciality.

Although it is recognised that the majority of service users accessing contraception are female, this chapter will refer to patients or people, to include the transgender community and those who identify as nonbinary.
