Abstract

Kidney stone disease is one of the most common problems associated with the urinary tract. The medical costs for treatment and prevention continue to rise every year in relation to the number kidney stone-related office and hospitals visits. Thus, it is important for the patient to be as knowledgeable as possible about every aspect of their kidney stone disease treatment as well as preventive care. Therefore patient education is a very important part of the kidney stone disease medical and nutrition consultation.

There are numerous organizations that provide a wealth of information and resources for medical staff and patients on the topic of kidney stones and kidney stone disease. The following section will provide a list of organizations that offer extensive online and educational resources for both medical staff and patients. It is important to inform and empower patients to routinely consult with their physician and registered dietitian any time they have a desire to modify a prescribed treatment plan, medication schedule, or nutrition plan related to the treatment and prevention of kidney stone disease.
