Abstract

Although appendicitis remains a common pediatric disease, making the diagnosis may be difficult. Obtaining a thorough history and physical exam remains of the utmost importance in determining whether a patient has appendicitis. The use of clinical scoring systems can improve the predictive value of our clinical assessment and aid in making the correct diagnosis. This chapter will discuss the approach to clinical diagnosis and the current scoring systems commonly used.
