Controversies in Pediatric Appendicitis

Abstract

It is not uncommon for a patient to develop postoperative complications following appendectomy. This is especially true in those individuals whose initial presentation was perforated appendicitis. Most complications are infectious and include surgical site infections (SSI) such as superficial wound infections and deep intra-abdominal abscesses. Appropriate diagnosis and management of these complications is imperative. Herein we discuss the diagnostic and management strategies for postoperative complications following appendectomy.
