Genetic Basis of Oral Health Conditions

Abstract

Orofacial pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) are common conditions which have a genetic component that is best defined as complex, likely due to small contributions from multiple genes and environmental factors. The challenge of studying the etiology of these conditions lies in the multiple ways they can be expressed. Clinical presentations vary while treatment is approached with the aim to alleviate symptoms.
