Abstract

According to conventional points of view one of the most important ontological characteristics of music as an art form is the non-verbal way of communication which is inherent in it. On the other hand, the structures of this strictly conditional musical language often have something in common with models of verbal language. We can see here the formal (syntactical) analogies without lexical contents. We propose to present the results of observations on the influence of verbal models in musical structures.

  1. 1.

Arnold Schoenberg. 1952. 15 Gedichte aus “Das Buch der hängenden Gärten” von Stefan George. Wien, London: Universal Edition. In the original publications of his works, George used individual spelling; in particular, nouns printed with a small letter against the rules of German orthography.

  2. 2.

It was my colleague from St. Petersburg, Professor Arkady Klimovitskiy, who noticed this feature of the song.
