Abstract

Separation processes are commonplace in manufacturing facilities, since industrial processes typically involve the conversion of raw materials into a desired product of defined specifications. Engineers should be familiar with a variety of separation methods, and this chapter facilitates effective learning of separation concepts and principles by providing tough practice problems covering key topics in flash and continuous distillation, binary and multicomponent separation, absorption and stripping, crystallization, filtration and drying systems. This chapter will also complement learning of other chapters in this book (e.g. reactor dynamics, thermodynamics) and thus facilitate a holistic understanding of engineering principles through a multi-faceted perspective of inter-related concepts.
