Abstract
In this chapter Muddiman describes how similar terms employed by ecologists and economists may have entirely different functional meanings. The aim of the Chapter is to identify potential sources of misunderstanding when specialists from each discipline begin to communicate using the concepts inherent in Ecosystem Services. Muddiman focusses on methodological similarities between the two disciplines, and compares and contrasts how concepts such as cyclic change, control and management, hierarchical organisation and energetics are treated.
