Abstract
Patch augmentation may be utilized when the rotator cuff can be repaired to nearly normal anatomy but with potentially increased tension at the tendon-to-bone interface, which is especially common in revision surgeries. It is commonly used when the tendon is shortened from a prior repair and the muscle remains healthy. The patch is typically used as an augmentation graft to reinforce the deficient rotator cuff tendons. When the rotator cuff repair is augmented with a graft, the native rotator cuff tendon is secured to the medial footprint on the greater tuberosity and the allograft patch is placed over the top of the cuff tendon. Subsequently, both structures are secured medially to the remaining rotator cuff tissue and laterally to the greater tuberosity with a knotless linked double-row construct.
