Abstract

This chapter provides the context surround the text and emphasizes the importance of the engineering construction industry for a nation’s economy. Accordingly, an increase in the effective and efficient operability of this particular industry is likely to have a flow-on effect to that countries economy. The eight methodologies considered in this text are outlined in the introduction and they are: (i) Knowledge Management ; (ii) Lean Construction ; (iii) Construction Contract Procurement; (iv) Optimal Work Duration On Site ; (v) Construction Site Waste; (vi) Rationalization of Australian Construction Safety Regulations; (vii) Sustainable Construction Labour Force; and (viii) Portfolio Project Development. A summation of the research process is provided, with a supporting flow chart. Definitions are provided of what exactly constitutes effective and efficient engineering construction methodologies. The initial research question was formulated and is described as follows: “what effective and efficient methodologies are available to add triple bottom line line value to the Australian engineering construction industry?” Key performance indicators adopted to select options for research are outlined.
