Designing an Information Retrieval System in the Archival Subdivision of Higher Educational Institutions

Abstract

The article deals with the design of the information retrieval system (IRS) in the archival subdivisions of higher educational institutions (HEIs). A functional model has been constructed in order to formalize the process of automation of the archival search for documents of the HEI graduates, employees. The functional model of the IRS has been designed with the help of structural modeling using the DFD tools. The expediency of the introduction and use of the information retrieval system of the archive in archival subdivisions of higher educational institutions has been analyzed, in particular, on the example of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. Due to the developed information retrieval system in the form of a database, taking into account the International Standard Archival Description (ISAD (G)), the search for archival information improves, and the performance of the department staff is facilitated to serve the population in solving issues of social importance.
