Abstract
The paper aims at defining the positive and negative factors that contribute to developing healthy lifestyle behavior in university students as a major segment of young adult population through creating a motivating educational environment that promotes values to support healthy lifestyle. The authors draw their conclusions on the conditions under which the students are motivated to follow a healthy lifestyle. The hypothesis of the study is that the students can develop healthy lifestyle habits if they realize that they are in charge of their health and the university delegates this responsibility to the students. This idea can be implemented into practice only if the university educational environment provides the necessary conditions. The paper uses a complex approach to the problem of developing healthy lifestyle habits in students. The approach combines theoretical investigations and practical surveys. The general idea is to concentrate on self-directed practices and personal responsibility of the students for their own health.
