Abstract
Recognizing neoplastic versus reactive lymphoid follicles is critical in distinguishing follicular lymphoma from reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. The composition and architecture of lymphoid follicles as well as the growth pattern of germinal center cells are useful parameters in this differential. The use of extrafollicular localization of germinal center cells as a diagnostic feature for lymphoma is reviewed.
