Abstract
One can make a strong case for the role of public policy in promoting and supporting healthy aging. Public finances pay for many age-related life events, including, in most countries, healthcare costs, senior housing, long-term care services, and pensions. Nations, states, municipalities, and towns spend large segments of their budgets on the support of programs which meet the needs of their older residents. They have a vested interest in policies and program which support healthy aging. Developing and implementing public policies which support healthy aging is both the right thing to do and the prescient thing to do.
