Abstract

The president is chief of state and head of government executing legislation passed by the Chamber of Deputies. They are also responsible for appointing cabinet members. The president is directly elected for a renewable four-year term by absolute majority in two rounds if needed. A second consecutive term was allowed in the 2015 constitution.
