Maturity of Lean Culture in Higher Education—Research, Assessment, and Improvement

Abstract

The author discusses the problem of the assessment of Lean Culture (LC) maturity and presents her original research tool for its diagnosing—Lean Culture Maturity Questionnaire (LCMQ). The chapter presents a theoretical framework for the conducted research. The main part of the chapter comprises a presentation of the LCMQ as a research tool. The methodology followed in the development of this tool allows the examination of LC at its deeper levels, invisible in the previously used assessment models which focus mainly on the visible sphere of organisational culture. On the basis of the results of her research, the author defines approaches to assessment, presents typologies of LC, as well as conditions for its assessment and shaping. The author discusses the limitations concerning the conducted research and the assessment of LC maturity. The chapter ends with a proposal for a programme of building LC maturity in HE.
