Abstract
This volume intends to broaden the scope of ‘comparative capitalism’ within the varieties of capitalism (VoC) tradition and to serve as a forum for exploring the idea of ‘economic patriotism’ in the present-day capitalist world-system. Posing critical questions about the tensions between liberal and authoritarian forms of interventionism, as well as potentially new hybrid forms of ‘state-permeated’ development, the volume seeks to advance research into economic nationalism, authoritarian neoliberalism, and various rent-seeking behaviours that come to define not only national policies but also global economic governance. The virtue of this volume is that it provides a thorough structural analysis of recent shifts in the global economy and their uneven effects on economic policy-making in both developing peripheral and advanced core countries.
