Abstract
In many snow countries in the world, the road surface condition undergoes great changes in winter, e.g. dry, wet, snow, ice, sherbet, and so on. Therefore, it is necessary for safe driving to operate delicately a vehicle corresponding to such changes of the road surface condition. To gain an understanding of road surface conditions, however, has difficulty in many situation. In this study, we have been developing the algorithm to decide road surface conditions using various sensors, i.e. acceleration, gyro, angular velocity, temperature, humidity, quasi-electrostatic field, and global positioning system (GPS). In addition, we would make a study on the system to predict road surface conditions based on such algorithm. This research is expected to be applied to the safe and secure traffic monitoring and control system through the technology of road-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle communications.
