Abstract

Some important aspects of numerical modelling of the oxygen converter are discussed in this paper, such as multiphase flow modelling and the mass transfer of species across the metal-slag interface. Numerical models can help to interpret and understand a variety of processes occurring simultaneously in a converter. For example, converter swaying can be used to improve mixing in the liquid metal phase. This is shown for the case of dephosphorization, where phosphorus is transferred from metal to slag and vice versa.
