Abstract
The success–failure dichotomy is defining of the neoliberal subject. Without romanticizing the cost of failure, I am interested in what is lost, foreclosed, unnoticed or undervalued in the experience of personal failure. This essay is an attempt to move into the spaces failure opens up and see what moves and breathes in areas we assume are dead and static. Under the guise of a speculative, and perhaps failed, manifesto, I suggest that failure might itself be a flag-bearer for alternative ways of living and meaning-making. These alternatives might be based on care of one another, forms of collective and collaborative value and support, solidarity over separation and belonging over superiority.
