Abstract
The last chapter deals with a physician who is not directly involved in patient care. Some physicians will advance to a leading position, either within a healthcare system, in governmental structures or in pharmaceutical industry. Other situations include teaching responsibilities; the role of an expert in the court; medical reports for candidates for driving licenses or use of weapons; expert opinions on investments in medical equipment; and medical counselling in sports, especially those with strong commercial support. In all these situations, physicians are obliged to act honestly, in the best interests of the society as a whole. Numerous cases of misbehavior have been revealed; yet, it is hard to understand those of us who cross the line of professional integrity and beneficence. Whatever a physician is doing outside of his basic profession, honest behavior enables an eventual return to medical practice.
