Abstract

This chapter reviews how digital technologies can enable the transition and the challenges described in the previous chapters. It focuses notably on grid operators, power generation and renewable operators, and finally focuses significantly on how demand-side activation could enable significant flexibility to the system. It notably analyzes progress on demand-side digitization, energy storage, electric vehicles and the rising interconnect between energy and IT infrastructures. The chapter concludes with a critical review of the different possible pathways towards a successful transition eligible per key geography.
