Abstract
Strict asepsis is essential because of the introduction of a foreign body. The axillae are shaved, even if the approach is not an axillary one; the patient has a shower on the morning of the operation using antiseptic soap. We use disposable adhesive drapes which give maximum protection to the operative field. Though the no-touch technique is virtually inapplicable in breast implantation, the gloves are changed to manipulate the implant (rinsing them to get rid of any particles of talc which might excite inflammatory reaction) and we avoid any manipulations that might compromise the asepsis (removal and reinsertion of implant, undue exposure to the air in the operating room).
