Management of and outcome for the newborn infant with congenital toxoplasmosis

  • Conference paper
Congenital toxoplasmosis

Abstract

As part of a National Collaborative Treatment Trial in the USA, based in Chicago, we have developed the following approach to management of the newborn infant with congenital toxoplasmosis. This approach and outcome when it is applied has been described earlier [1–11]. It also has been guided by, and included when possible, the concomitant experience developed in France in which the infected fetus is treated in utero by administration of pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine (with leucovorin) to the mother which then cross the placenta [12–16].
