Present and future prospects for the chemotherapy of gliomas

Cancer Treatment An Update

Abstract

That there has been «littleprogress in the treatment of malignant gliomas» has almost become a cliche in oncology, yet from the past quarter century of effort we have learned a great deal about those empiric covariates that influence survival and have increased the quality and length of survival for some tumors. It has been shown that outcome (survival) for supratentorial gliomas is related to the following covariates: tumor histology and grade, labelling index, age at diagnosis, performance status, post-operative residual tumor volume, and the type and extent of radiation and chemotherapy.
