Résumé
Depuis quelques années, apparaissent dans le champ des traitements de la dépression, de nouvelles techniques biologiques non-médicamenteuses telles que la stimulation magnétique transcrânienne répétée (rTMS), la magnéto convulsivothérapie (MST), la neuromodulation profonde (DBS) et la stimulation du nerf vague (VNS). Ces techniques physiques prennent peu à peu leur place dans cette indication et pourraient constituer des alternatives intéressantes pour des patients sévèrement handicapés par leur pathologie. Leur utilisation s’appuie à la fois sur des approches empiriques, l’observation d’effets thymiques dans le cadre d’utilisations non-psychiatriques et des approches physiopathologiques essayant de faire le lien entre les hypothèses étiopathogéniques et les mécanismes d’actions de ces méthodes. Quoi qu’il en soit, les recherches actuelles mettent en avant des résultats très encourageants et nous nous attacherons dans ce chapitre à décrire de manière plus détaillée la stimulation du nerf vague (SNV), technique qui, à ce jour, a été très peu développée en France.
