La consommation d’alcool ou d’autres toxiques est un facteur favorisant. Les manipulations de la colonne cervicale (chiropraxie) sont un facteur de risque pour la dissection de l’artère vertébrale. Les maltraitances de l’enfant peuvent causer une ataxie cérébelleuse traumatique.
