Résumé
La cirrhose est définie par une atteinte hépatique diffuse, caractérisée par une fibrose et la transformation de l’architecture normale du foie en nodules de régénération. Elle est le témoin d’un processus pathogène dont les causes établies sont nombreuses, alcool, virus B, C, maladies auto-immune ou métabolique au premier rang. La prévalence de la cirrhose n’est pas exactement connue. Sur certaines séries, une cirrhose peut être découverte dans 30 à 40% des cas lors de l’autopsie. On estime la prévalence de la cirrhose alcoolique en France d’environ 3 000 cas par million d’habitants.
