Résumé
Même si l’incidence des tumeurs rares est (par définition) faible, leur diversité et leur localisation ubiquitaire font que tout pathologiste, quelle que soit sa spécialité, y est confronté de façon régulière au cours de sa vie professionnelle. Certains aspects de la conduite à tenir devant une tumeur dite rare n’offrent pas de particularité spécifique. Comme dans tous les types de tumeurs, c’est au pathologiste qu’il revient de poser le diagnostic de certitude et d’identifier la nature exacte de la lésion. Il doit également évaluer le risque de malignité et, en cas de tumeur maligne, indiquer les facteurs histopronostiques contribuant à la prédiction de l’évolution. Dans certains cas, il contribue à mettre en évidence des facteurs prédictifs de la réponse au traitement. Enfin, il peut être amené à contribuer à la surveillance sous traitement et, notamment, à l’évaluation de la réponse au traitement ou à la recherche d’une maladie résiduelle.
