Abstrait

Depuis ces dernières décennies, les infections humaines à Bartonella apparaissent dans leur ensemble comme des affections émergentes 1. Le genre Bartonella comprend actuellement 19 espèces (trois sous-espèces) dont 10 sont reconnues comme pathogènes chez l’homme comme Bartonella bacilliformis, B. quintana, B. henselae, plus récemment B. elizabethae, B. alsatica, B. vinsoni subsp. aerupensis B. vinsoni subsp. berkoffi B. kohlerae et B. washoensis (tableau 24.1). Ces espèces sont impliquées dans des tableaux cliniques variés. Les plus connues sont la maladie de Carrion, la fièvre des tranchées, la maladie des griffes du chat; les plus récentes sont l’angiomatose bacillaire 2, la péliose bacillaire, les septicémies, les endocardites à hémocultures négatives 3. Le spectre des connaissances médicales concernant les infections aux bactéries du genre Bartonella sp. a progressé rapidement du fait de l’apport des techniques modernes de biologie moléculaire, notamment d’amplification et de séquençage 2. Les bactéries du genre Bartonella se caractérisent par leur capacité à induire des lésions angioprolifératives d’aspect tumoral 4.
