Abstract
After more than 25 years of operating meteorological satellites, the United States now maintains a ground data handling and distribution system that has incorporated many technologies developed during the period. Because this system represents a considerable investment, future upgrading and replacements must not only be carefully planned, but accomplished with minimum disruption to ongoing services.
