Abstract
The Soviet Hydrometeorological Service is planning the full automation of its surface reporting network. The basic sensors have been redesigned to meet the requirements of automation. A new thermoelectric dew-cell has been designed which operates over the range −43 to 45C. The wind sensor can obtain simultaneous averages of wind speed and direction as well as instantaneous values. The pressure sensor is a cistern barometer fitted with a photoelectric control.
