Clinical Echocardiography

Abstract

Percutaneous device closure is now the method of choice for ASD [1] and PFO [2] closure, but success remains imperfect [1, 2] despite the wide range of devices available, and surgical closure may be necessary [1]. Echocardiography has been invaluable in pre-, intra- and postprocedural assessment [3, 4], in determining suitability for device closure, optimizing choice of device, guiding closure [5], detecting complications, and understanding reasons for failure.
