Abstract

Contrary to widespread and frequently observed social and political terms, the pursuit of sustainability is opposite to that of conservation. Conservation and regeneration of social and natural capital demand that we break away from the ways of living, consumption and production that dominate today, and experiment with new ways. If this experimentation falls short, if no experience will ever accumulate, if nothing is learned from the process, then will the true conservation continue? What will sustain the current, catastrophic ways of living, producing and consuming?
