Abstract

Developed in early 1990s, endovascular techniques of aortic repair offer a novel alternative to open surgical repair. Progressive improvement in technology and increasing experience with technique has let to its emergence as a dominant method of aortic aneurysm repair. The relatively recent guideline, by the United States Preventive Services Task Force, recommending one-time screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is likely to increase the number of patients undergoing AAA repair in the years to come. This chapter discusses the various aspects of evaluation, decision making, technique, and outcomes following endovascular repair of aneurysms of abdominal and thoracic aorta. The outcomes following open and endovascular repair of aneurysms are reviewed towards the end of the chapter.

This chapter is dedicated to my late beloved mother Muniswamy Lakshmidevamma who was my lifetime inspiration and motivation.
