Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy

Retroperitoneal Approach

  • Chapter
Essential Urologic Laparoscopy

Abstract

At specialized centers worldwide, laparoscopic radical nephrectomy is now routine practice for management of indicated patients with localized renal cell carcinoma. Compared to open radical nephrectomy, the laparoscopic approach is associated with comparable operative time, decreased blood loss, superior recovery, improved cosmesis, and equivalent cancer control over a long-term follow-up (1–3).
