Abstract
The logistics and timing of the angiographic injections must be coordinated with the appropriate radiographic technician. Much can be learned from an initial scout film of the heart. Following the scout film, a meticulous injection protocol is recommended for consistency and accuracy in the angiographic analysis. Regarding the sequence of injections, the complexity of interpretation of the postmortem angiogram increases with the number of vessels and/or grafts injected because of overlap of vessels filled with contrast material. In cases of CABG, injection of the native coronary ostia may not be necessary, depending on the amount of information gathered after injection of the grafts. Postmortem injection of the heart should be viewed, if not embraced, as a means of expediting clinical-pathologic correlation in cardiovascular-related deaths.
