Abstract

Molecular analysis of chromosomal translocations in human lymphoma cells has led to the identification of new cellular protooncogenes that contribute to lymphoma formation. Genes encoding for the B-cell immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) and T-cell antigen receptors (TCR) are frequent targets for such rearrangements. Many of these rearrangements are detectable by Southern blot analysis, hybridizing with the immunoglobulin (Ig), TCR, or appropriate DNA probes for other genes involved at the point of translocation.
