Abstract
Insulin treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) requires the following core concepts:
-
1.
A knowledge of pancreatic beta cell insulin secretion in the nondiabetic person, which is the goal of management;
-
2.
A knowledge of the timing of our insulin-delivery preparations and methods of injection, which will provide the tools to achieve approximation of normal insulin delivery;
-
3.
A knowledge of how to observe the effects of insulin delivery in terms of the changes in concentration of blood glucose achieved by home glucose monitoring.
