Measuring Spontaneous Turning Behaviors in Children and Adults

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Contemporary Neuroscience ((CNEURO))

Abstract

Asymmetrical spontaneous turning behavior (rotational preference or circling bias) has been observed in humans and animals, and it is related to clinical hemineglect (Glick and Ross, 1981; Bradshaw and Nettleton, 1987). When a rotational preference is observed, it is typically in a direction away from the brain hemisphere with higher striatal dopaminergic transmission (Glick and Ross, 1981; Bradshaw and Nettleton, 1987).
