Abstract

In the next several decades, older adults will represent the fastest growing cohort; in fact, by 2041, 60% of the total population will be older than 60 yr, and one-third older than 70 yr in the United States. Women will be predominant in this population, particularly in the oldest age group. Poverty, loneliness, and isolation will be the major problems this older population will continue to face (1,2).
