Abstract

Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been associated with abnormalities of the various components of hematopoiesis. In general, these abnormalities may be a consequence of HIV infection itself, an adverse effect of therapies directed against HIV infection or its associated conditions, or involvement of the bone marrow by HIV-related opportunistic infections and neoplasms.
