Abstract
Most of what is presented in the sections on physics and chemistry applies here. Unlike in many other fields of life sciences, there appears to have been no serious attempt to introduce unified abbreviations in this area. Although some of the leading journals recommend some abbreviations to be used without explanation, this is certainly not a trend to be followed.
