Anesthesia and Perioperative Care for Organ Transplantation

Abstract

Pancreas transplant recipients usually have severe diabetes along with most of the systemic complications associated with this disease. However, with careful preoperative evaluation, intraoperative and postoperative care, and anesthetic management, most patients can successfully undergo pancreas transplantation alone or with or after kidney transplantation. Anesthesiologists can ensure maximal graft function by optimizing the metabolic and hemodynamic status of patients undergoing this operation.
