Anesthesia and Perioperative Care for Organ Transplantation

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has many causes and, if untreated, results in poor quality of life and a shortened life span. Kidney transplantation may increase both, making life more meaningful while increasing longevity. Unfortunately, however, CKD results in comorbid conditions. Therefore, preoperative evaluation to optimize health status before surgery is essential. This assessment will help determine which type of intraoperative monitoring to use and which anesthesia care plan is best.
