Abstract
There are entire books devoted to the process and art of writing strong grant applications. My goal here is not to give you endlessly nuanced advice or specific details on different application types, but rather to share with you my personal insights and broad ideas and opinions as to what will help make the best grant application. But, not matter how much advice I give, I firmly believe that the only way to write a really strong grant application is practice. And even after you have your first successes, you will undoubtedly have some huge failures. It is inevitable. About all we can manage to do with practice is to improve our odds. Grant writing is definitely a very tough medium to master, and there is no definite recipe for success, except repetition and perseverance.
