This book was born of close collaboration between Professor Antonio Giordano— a highly regarded pathologist—and Professor F.M. Sacerdoti, an engineer specializing in the realization of complex equipment and vision systems.

We agreed that pathologists, biologists, medical doctors, applied researchers, and others who work with imaging systems, such as microscopes , time-to-amplitude converter , etc., every day, would benefit from a deeper understanding of how these systems work, what software can be used to process their information, why the image is so confusing, and so on.

The first chapter is a basic guide to statistics, which is important for all working in the health field. We then provide an overview of the latest techniques in several medical fields , from pathology, microscopy, and cytometry to advanced microscopy techniques.

Each chapter has been prepared by an expert in the field—someone who works with the specific topic on a daily basis—to provide realistic insight into the techniques, their use, and specific lessons learned.
