Abstract
This chapter reviews new developments in the diagnosis of female sexual dysfunction. Specifically, it addresses the changes reflected in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), which include the creation of new diagnostic entities such as Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder (FSIAD) and Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder (GPPPD). The DSM-5 criteria should be used as a descriptive framework in establishing the diagnosis and etiology of sexual dysfunction in women, together with information obtained from a thorough clinical interview, physical examination, indicated laboratory testing, and, possibly, psychometric assessment.
