Abstract
The most commonly-deployed aspect of sustainable landfilling technologies is the deliberate addition of moisture to the waste mass to promote rapid stabilization. There are numerous potential liquid sources available to the operator, so this chapter presents a variety of options that could be used as a stand-alone option or in combination. In addition to liquid sources, moisture addition targets—a critical design and planning decision for every site that is using or wants to use sustainable landfilling technologies—are also discussed. The chapter ends with a discussion of different liquid conveyance systems and the addition of wet wastes to achieve moisture addition goals.
